Staff Spotlight

Burn Brae Day Camp is “A Home Away from Home” for Marissa Cylinder, a fifth year dance, and third year creative writing teacher at Burn Brae. Marissa has been dancing since second grade, and currently teaches Tap (her specialty), Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, and Broadway dance majors, and Modern Dance as a minor. She keeps coming back for more Burn Brae life each summer because of her love for the children and staff, who are like an extension of family.

Marissa graduated from Arcadia with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Dance & Music. She teaches third grade and conducts an afterschool program for dance in the Morrisville Borough School District of New Jersey during the school year.

Introduced to Burn Brae by a close friend, Marissa found it to be a unique place where she could get to know children on a more individual basis. She enjoys introducing them to new styles of dance, and hearing positive feedback from parents regarding how their children have progressed over time.

Can you believe Marissa choreographs 30 dances each summer? This means she has choreographed well over 150 dances since being at Burn Brae! Marissa clearly enjoys what she does, especially at Burn Brae; it is an outlet for her to express her creativity just as much as it is for her students. She encourages them to chase their own dreams and shoot for the stars.
