Camp Philosophy

We are a creative arts camp dedicated to enriching your child's life through the exploration of arts and physical activities. In a nurturing and non-competitive environment, our campers soar to their individual heights.

About Burn Brae

We are what you always wanted to give your children but didn't think existed! Founded in 1981, BURN BRAE DAY CAMP OF CREATIVE ARTS was designed for boys and girls ages 3 through 15. Our goal is to stimulate and encourage your child's creative interests in theatre, art, voice, musical instruments, dance, creative writing, video production, circus arts, magic, and more. Our swim and sports program emphasizes instruction, not competition. At Burn Brae, children can relax, have fun and experience the satisfaction of creative expression and athletic development.

Camp Structure

We offer four-, six- and eight-week sessions with optional extended hours available. One of the very unique features of Burn Brae is that our boys and girls are able to select their own classes and activities. We offer a wide selection of creative and performing arts classes as well as non-competitive sports, creative writing and computer, nature and Red Cross swim instruction. The program is comprehensive and diversified. All courses are individually tailored, with campers progressing at their own pace in a noncompetitive and supportive atmosphere. There are camper performances, recitals, art displays, and arts festivals for parents and friends.

Burn Brae Staff

Implementing our program is a trained and mature staff of outstanding teaching and performing professionals who are second to none. 85% of our staff are professional teachers! We have a camper staff ratio that averages 5:1, even lower in pre-majors! Our expert Red Cross water safety staff teaches your child to be a better swimmer. Our trained sports staff offers instruction that enhances your child's self-confidence and makes camp fun!

About the Founder

Lisa Kasser started Burn Brae in 1981 and has been the owner and director ever since. She majored in theatre and dance at the University of Michigan and has starred in productions in the U.S. and Canada. In the early '80s, she was the associate producer of Channel 17's Dancin' On Air. Lisa attended camp throughout her childhood and continues to find enjoyment and inspiration in camp life everyday.

Majors and Minors

Campers ages 7 through 15 are grouped by age and choose their activities. Campers select one major (1-1/2 hours daily) and four minors (2 per day, 45 minutes each), as well as one morning sports elective. A morning Red Cross instructional swim and an afternoon recreational swim occur daily.

Pre-Majors

These campers are 3 to 6 years old and are grouped by age. Choosing majors and minors does not apply to pre-majors; however, they thrive in a wonderful weekly schedule that includes art, theatre, movement, swimming, sports, violin, recorder, singing, circus arts, ceramics, computer, nature, cooking, reading, writing, and more. The children are cared for by their own warm, nurturing, experienced and professional teachers.
